Stay Away From Negative People: 5 Tips for a Fresh Start in 2021

After 2020 we all need a fresh start. But just because the last digit of the year changed at midnight doesn’t mean everything is perfect. We all have a little tinkering to do to become the person we want to be.

fresh start 2021Here are FIVE “fresh start” quick tips to come back to time and time again:

Fresh Start Tip #1: Step Away Negative People
Make a list of the people in your life. Look at each name and decide if it is someone who pulls you down to their level or brings you up and makes you strive to be a better person. Make a note next to each name. Strive to give more of your time to those who lift you up and limit the time with those who don’t.

Fresh Start Tip #2: 30 Minutes for Personal Development
Pick something you want to work on. It can be working out, reading, scripture study, or a skill. Start with 5 minutes a day for the first week and add an additional minute, or two, a week till you get to 30 minutes a day.

Another method is to aim for 2 days a week for the first month. Then aim for 3 days the next month and so on.

Fresh Start Tip #3: Find your WHY
Ask yourself “Why do I get up in the morning?” Now take your answer and ask yourself “why” again, do it again and again till you can no longer do it {about 25-30 times}. This can help you find the root of your WHY you do what you do. Then focus on the goals that build upon your why.

Fresh Start Tip #4: Limit Social Media
Give yourself a limit. Say 10 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes after the kids go to bed. Set a timer and stick to it. Imagine all the time you will free up for personal development or your personal relationships with those in your family.

Another option is taking a social media fast or break. Don’t use social media for a week and make a note of how you feel at the end. Take a break as often as needed.

Fresh Start Tip #5: Keep a Positivity Log
Make a list every day of the things you are grateful for. Write the big and little things and retrain your brain to look for the positive things in your life instead of honing in on the negative ones. Set your mind to find at least ONE on even the worst of days.
